Mechanisms 18th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting in Shizuoka, Japan 2016.04.27
18th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM) was held in Shizuoka, Japan on April 27 2016. Minister MARUKAWA Tamayo of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, Minister YOON Seongkyu of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea and Mr. CHEN Jining of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China attended the meeting. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) attended this meeting as an observer and organized a panel exhibition on history and significance of trilateral environment cooperation, as well as main outcomes of TEMM. 

At the meeting, the three Ministers introduced the latest development of environmental policies in each country, discussed major policies to address global and regional environmental issues, reviewed progress on the Tripartite Joint Action Plan on Environmental Cooperation (2015-2019), and were reported the outcome of the Tripartite Roundtable on Environmental Business (TREB) by a Chinese representative and of the Youth Forum by a Korean representative. 

This year, the three ministries signed a MOU on Tripartite Cooperation Network for Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control Technologies as an implementation of the result of the 6th Trilateral Summit held on November 1st, 2015 in Seoul. They also welcomed the opportunity to exchange information among three countries on climate change response and the progress of the general public awareness project, which will be held in collaboration with the TCS. 

At the press conference after the meeting, the three Ministers introduced TEMM18 results and signed the Joint Communiqué. A TEMM Environment Awards Ceremony was held as well. 

Prior to TEMM 18, the Tripartite Roundtable on Environmental Business themed “Active Role of Environmental Industry in the Regional Transition to Green Economy” and the Youth Forum themed “Nature’s Benefit to People” were held on April 25-26. Deputy Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon addressed opening remarks at the Youth Forum. He introduced the importance of trilateral cooperation and the background of establishment of TCS, and expressed TCS’ willingness to give any kind of support for the young generation to learn sustainable development. 

The 19th TEMM will be held in Korea in 2017.
