On November 30, 2023, TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup attended the 23rd TRIPO Heads Meeting and delivered remarks. The meeting was held in Busan, ROK, hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), with participation by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and Japan Patent Office (JPO).
At the 23rd meeting, the KIPO, CBIPA, and JPO presented the current status of their national IP systems and reviewed the latest TRIPO cooperation activities in the areas of trademark and design, trial and appeal, design, human resources development issues, and IP societies. At the meeting, a special agenda on AI-generated inventions patent examination on AI-related inventions, and a 10-year plan for trilateral IP cooperation were also discussed.
SG LEE emphasized that the TRIPO Heads Meeting has been held without interruption since it started in 2001. TRIPO Heads Meeting resilience underscores the commitment of our nations to sustaining a robust platform for
the exchange of ideas and cooperative policymaking. TCS will continue to advance further institutionalization of trilateral cooperation and is unwavering in its commitment to working closely with the three governments to strengthen trilateral IP cooperation.
After the meeting, SG LEE had a bilateral meeting with Ms. LEE Insil, Commissioner of KIPO. Celebrating the successful 23 iterations of TRIPO Heads Meetings over the past 23 years, Ms. LEE Insil highlighted that despite the competitive nature of the IP arena and variations in policies within each nation, their collaboration has thrived based on a foundation of long-standing friendship and shared needs. In response, SG LEE acknowledged the significant contributions of TRIPO's efforts to the regularization and institutionalization of trilateral cooperation. He emphasized the commitment of the TCS to offer any necessary support, underscoring its dedication to further enhancing this collaborative endeavor.
The meeting was followed by the 11th Trilateral IP User Symposium, where the Offices introduced the role of IP in the renovation of SMEs.
