On 8 November 2022, the online 13th International Symposium on Northeast Asia Cooperation was co-organized by the Institute of International Relations at Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences of China, the Centre for Contemporary Korean Studies at Keio University of Japan and the Centre for Chinese Studies at Dongseo University of the ROK. The theme of this year’s symposium was “Strengthening Regional Cooperation Mechanisms: Current Challenges and Future Prospects of Northeast Asia”. TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian was invited to attend the symposium and delivered the keynote speech.

During the speech, Secretary-General OU analyzed the development and significant role of regional cooperation mechanisms in Northeast Asia, as well as the serious challenges they encountered, through analyzing the current situation and major issues in the region and the world, including the continuous influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, worsening geopolitical environment, rising traditional and non-traditional security threats, soaring misperceptions and sentiments in the cyberspace etc. SG OU suggested that the relevant stakeholders should advance the current cooperation mechanisms, focus more on economic ties and people-to-people exchanges to overcome the difficulties of political and security issues, interconnect relevant cooperation mechanisms, produce more IO professionals, and strengthen public awareness of the mechanisms. She also highlighted the efforts and plans of TCS in further promoting lasting peace, common prosperity and shared culture in the region, such as Trilateral Visionary Group, Youth Month, Trilateral Youth Exchange Network, Trilateral Statistics Hub, and others.
