From October 21st to 23rd, 2019 China (Anyang) International Conference of Chinese Characters was held in Anyang, Henan Province of China, hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the People’s Government of Henan Province, organized by the People’s Government of Anyang Municipality, Henan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the National Museum of Chinese Writing. The TCS delegation headed by Deputy Secretary-General KANG Doho attended the Conference as supporter.
At the Opening Ceremony, DSG Kang delivered Congratulatory Remarks. He highly spoke of unique Asian civilization, which enriched our life and advanced Asian countries in many areas including philosophy, politics and culture & art. He emphasized that Chinese characters, as one of the most important medium for building and spreading East Asian civilization over thousands of years, played a significant role in promoting mutual exchange and friendship among China, Japan and the ROK and in contributing to the world as well. In this regard, he introduced the TCS’ publication of Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary (TCVD)*, which is compiled with the aim of facilitating mutual communication of the people in the three countries.
At the Conference, TCS director NAGAFUCHI Kenji made a presentation in the session to introduce the TCS project of compiling TCVD and its significance. Furthermore, he delivered a short lecture and had interaction with students in the local junior high school. He briefed the similarities and differences of Chinese characters and vocabularies in the three countries which attracted the students a lot.
China (Anyang) International Conference of Chinese Characters is a biannually event starting from 2015, brought together with prominent experts on written characters and Chinese character culture from all over the world to have academic exchanges and discuss relevant research. This year, as one of side events, Chinese speech contest targeting foreign university students also took place.
