TCS delegation headed by the Director of Economic Affairs, Ms. QIAO Wen, attended the International Symposium on Trilateral Cooperation and Peace in Northeast Asia in Shanghai, China on September 21, 2019. Director QIAO Wen delivered opening remark as well as speech at the session on Economic and Trade Cooperation and Trilateral Relationship.

In the opening remark, Director QIAO introduced the footprint of trilateral cooperation in the past 20 years, the role of TCS and its contributions to trilateral cooperation. She emphasized that think tanks were important players and stakeholders of TC and TCS which provided valuable insights for the development of trilateral cooperation. She stated that TCS would keep close collaboration with think tanks to advance trilateral cooperation in the future. 

At the session on economic and trade cooperation and trilateral relationship, Director QIAO Wen underlined that this year was the 20th anniversary of trilateral cooperation and indicated that moving forward, the three countries and Northeast Asian states should consider to connect national strategies to strengthen economic collaboration, such as Belt and Road Initiative with New Northern Policy and New Southern Policy, and concept on Free and Open Indo-Pacific, keep promoting FTA and RCEP negotiations, as well as actively explore Trilateral +X feasibility and projects.

Director QIAO also introduced the economic facts of China, Japan and the ROK. She indicated that the three countries were considerable economies in the region and globe, and cooperation would bring out “win-win-win” results for the three countries economically and would also contribute to regional stability.   She introduced TCS’ projects to promote trilateral and regional cooperation in economic and trade and stated that TCS’ would continue its endeavor in this area. 

The Symposium was held by the Trilateral Cooperation Studies Center of Shanghai International Studies University to exchange ideas and commemorate the 20th anniversary of trilateral cooperation. Former governmental officials and distinguished scholars from CJK think tanks and universities attended the symposium and shared their insights. They also expressed their belief in TCS in terms of promoting trilateral cooperation in the long run.
