Seminar & Forum The OEAED 5th International Business Meeting in Yantai, China 2018.11.06 ~ 2018.11.09

 

The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) delegation headed by Deputy Secretary-General HAN Mei attended the Organization for East Asia Economic Development (OEAED) 5th International Business Meeting in Yantai, China on November 7 to 8, 2018.

The OEAED 5th International Business Meeting was kicked off with congratulatory remarks from Ms. ZHANG Bo, Vice Mayor of Yantai City and DSG HAN Mei. In her speech, DSG HAN appreciated the contribution made by OEAED and its member business associations and member cities in terms of facilitating the sub-regional cooperation and connectivity among China, Japan and the ROK. She also introduced the TCS’s major activities in trade and investment areas including the China-Japan-Korea Free Trade Agreement, supply chain connectivity, e-commerce and local-level exchange, etc. She mentioned the importance of communication and cooperation among local governments and private sectors, and expressed TCS’s willingness to facilitate and serve the trilateral cooperation not only at a governmental level, but also in terms of bridging the governmental, local and private sectors.

The Investment Promotion Bureau of Yantai City delivered an introductory speech on Yantai City’s overall economic and industrial development status and achievements, advantageous business sectors and business opportunities offering to its potential partners.

Representatives from OEAED member cities including Dalian, Incheon, Kitakyushu, Kumamoto, Qingdao, Shimonoseki and Ulsan respectively introduced the business environment and investment opportunities in each city. All city representatives have expressed strong and common interests in business cooperation, as well as the conclusion of a China-Japan-Korea free trade agreement. At this occasion, member cities also voted and agreed to host the next meeting in Kitakyushu, Japan next year.

On the sidelines of the meeting, DSG HAN discussed with representatives from Kitakyushu and the General Affairs Bureau of Kitakyushu on the importance of business information exchange among three countries and the possibility of creating an enterprises information database. Representatives from Kitakyushu expressed their interests in this idea and proposed to discuss more details for realising this initiative with the TCS. 

DSG HAN Mei also met with Ms. ZHANG Bo, Vice Mayor of Yantai City and Mr. DONG Rui, Deputy Secretary-General of Yantai City to propose and discuss a CJK-FTA related event next year.

The Organization for East Asia Economic Development (OEAED) was established in 2004 with a mandate to promote economic exchange among 11 member cities, facilitate free trade and investment, and ultimately establish a regional free trade zone in the Yellow Sea Rim region to contribute to the economic development of the East Asia.
