Mechanisms 5th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management in Tangshan, China 2017.09.07
The 5th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management was held in Tangshan, China on September 7, 2017. The Meeting was presided by Mr. GU Zhaoxi, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of People’s Republic of China with the participation of Mr. RYU Hee In, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Safety of Republic of Korea and Mr. FUKUDA Mineyuki, State Minister of Cabinet Office of Japan. Ms. HAN Mei, Deputy Sectary-General of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) attended the meeting as an observer. 

At the meeting, the three countries reviewed the progress in the field of disaster management in each country and exchanged ideas on future cooperation among the three countries. Reaffirming that the common action by the three countries is needed to deal with climate change and effectively reduce disaster risks and losses to a maximum extent for the benefit of the three countries and their people, the heads of delegations signed the ‘Trilateral Joint Statement on Disaster Management Cooperation,’ which stipulates the measures on strengthening trilateral disaster management cooperation in the areas of 1) promoting continued implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR); and 2) strengthening capacity building on disaster risk reduction and relief. Representing the TCS, DSG HAN reported efforts made by the TCS in this field since the last meeting and expressed the TCS’ commitment for following up on the meeting. 

The next meeting will be held in the latter half of 2019 in the ROK.
