Seminar & Forum TCS SG LEE Hee-sup delivered remark at the 2024 RCEP Local Governments and Friendship Cities Cooperation (Huangshan) Forum 2024.06.21

On 21 June, 2024, Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) delegation led by Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup, attended the 2024 RCEP Local Governments and Friendship Cities Cooperation (Huangshan) Forum. Representatives from the governments and business sectors of the RCEP Member countries attended the ceremony. 

SG LEE delivered a remark at the opening ceremony. He appreciated the invitation from Anhui Province and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. He pointed out that RCEP will bring numerous benefits to its member countries, while its dividends can be fully released by giving priority to raising the utilization rate of its rules of origin. He further mentioned the 9th Trilateral Summit, which affirmed the importance of ensuring implementation in a transparent, smooth, and effective manner of RCEP Agreement as the basis of a Trilateral FTA. East Asian countries should aim to elevate RCEP to its envisioned level and seek integration with other economic cooperation bodies including CPTPP and CJKFTA, solidifying its position as the world’s largest free trade agreement. 

SG LEE also attended the official meeting with Mr. SUN Yong, Vice Governer of Anhui Province. Mr. SUN warmly welcomed TCS delegation. SG LEE appreciated the welcome from the Anhui side. He emphasized the importance of making joint effort to utilize and upgrade the RCEP framework, and enhance the cooperation among East Asia and beyond. 

The 2024 RCEP Local Governments and Friendship Cities Cooperation (Huangshan) Forum is jointly held by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the People's Government of Anhui Province from June 20 to 23. This forum aims to actively promote mutual understanding, explore business opportunities, establish good relationships, and carry out cooperation with local governments of other RCEP member countries, focusing on promoting high-quality foreign exchange and cooperation in new energy vehicles, advanced photovoltaics and new energy storage, as well as cultural, tourism and education.
