On October 5, TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian and Deputy Secretaries-General BEK Bum-hym and SAKATA Natsuko (collectively the “Consultative Board”) paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. FUKUDA Yasuo, former Prime Minister of Japan at his office. Both exchanged views on trilateral cooperation with a focus on cultural exchanges. 

H.E. FUKUDA thanked the Consultative Board for coming to meet him, and noted that the COVID-19 pandemic reduced exchanges and dialogues in person and hindered deepening mutual understanding among the peoples of China, Japan and ROK, expecting TCS to keep the momentum of the people-to-people exchanges. Emphasizing the cultural exchanges play an important role in the midst of difficult political relations, he was pleased to see TCS conduct cultural programs, especially a program of Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary (TCVD), which was one of the outcomes of the Northeast Asia Trilateral Forum (NATF) he himself led from 2012 to 2016, as he saw the usage of the Chinese characters is one of the important shared cultural values among the three countries which was kept and developed for thousands of years. In addition, H.E. FUKUDA acknowledged the importance and at the same time difficulty of exchanges and dialogues between Generation Z and senior generation in the three countries. 

SG OU, echoing with H.E. FUKUDA, shared that TCS has been proactively promoting the cultural and people-to-people programs under the TCS theme of lasting peace, common prosperity, and shared culture, especially since the 6th board took office, emphasizing that culture is something to be shared and culture is something not to divide us but unite us. Furthermore, highlighted that when bilateral relations has challenges among the three countries, trilateral relations can provide opportunities, SG OU sought more advice and further supports from the wise persons like H.E. FUKUDA. DSG SAKATA, introducing CJK Virtual Marathon to him as a good example of bringing people of the three countries together across generations and sprouting trilateral cooperation at the grassroots level, stressed TCS tries to build up momentum of trilateral cooperation from cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
