The Culture City of East Asia (CCEA) 2019 Incheon Opening Ceremony was held on April 26, 2019, at Incheon Culture & Arts Center. The Opening Ceremony consisted of a variety of traditional and contemporary cultural performances by Incheon delegation as well as Toshima-ku of Japan and Xi’an of China, which are designated as the 2019 Culture Cities of East Asia. The TCS delegation led by Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon attended the ceremony. In his remarks at the Welcoming Reception, Secretary-General LEE stressed the importance of culture and the cooperation among local cities in promoting people-to-people exchanges and fostering friendly relations.
The Culture City of East Asia is a trilateral initiative that was agreed at the 4th Trilateral Culture Ministers' Meeting (TCMM) in 2012 to practice the idea of “East Asian spirit, cultural exchange and convergence, and appreciation of other cultures” with respect to cultural diversity. Since 2014, each country has designated one city to serve as the Culture City of East Asia for that year. The three designated cities not only carry out a variety of cultural and art events but also engage in trilateral cultural exchanges that foster mutual understanding and friendship.
