Others UNOCHA Assistant Secretary-General KANG Kyung-wha visited the TCS 2014-02-19


Ms. KANG Kyung-wha, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator (ASG/DERC) in the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), visited the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (hereinafter “TCS”) on February 19, 2014, and met with the board members of the TCS, Secretary-General Amb. IWATANI Shigeo and Deputy Secretary-Generals Mr. CHEN Feng and Mr. LEE Jong-heon.


Secretary-General Iwatani welcomed Ms. KANG’s visit, and briefed on the function of the TCS and the current progress of trilateral cooperation on disaster management by sharing experience of holding the first Table Top Exercise (TTX) on disaster management in Seoul last year. Amb. Iwatani also showed appreciation for UNOCHA’s support in the 1st TTX by sending an expert to share experience in humanitarian assistance in disaster relief, and expect a continuous engagement of UNOCHA in the future TTX.


Ms. KANG gave an introduction to the function and services of UNOCHA, and shared successful cases in humanitarian assistance in disaster-stricken areas. She also introduced humanitarian financing of UNOCHA and its partnership with public and private sectors.


At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed on continuing close cooperation, with a view to expand areas of collaboration in disaster management and relief between TCS and UNOCHA.
