Mechanisms 8th Trilateral Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Suzhou, China 2018.10.27

The 8th Trilateral Tourism Ministers’ Meeting was held in Suzhou, China on October 27, 2018. The Meeting was presided by Mr. LUO Shugang, Minister of Culture and Tourism of China with the participation of Mr. DO Jonghwan, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and Mr. ISHII Keiichi, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan. Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) Delegation headed by Deputy Secretary-General YAMAMOTO Yasushi also participated in the Meeting as an observer.

Under the theme of “Promoting sound, stable and sustainable regional cooperation through tourism”, the three Ministers exchanged the views on the specific agendas including 1) Improve the level of travel convenience, create an economically open and integrated China-Japan-Korea cooperation, and strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges through expanding the trilateral tourism cooperation; 2) Surrounding the theme of “sustainable development”, promote the quality and standardization of regional tourism, actively strengthen youth tourism exchange, and further enhance the importance of East Asian tourism in the world tourism industry; and 3) Further deepen the pragmatic cooperation among China, Japan and the ROK through Olympic Games, joint promotion on “Visit East Asia Campaign”, and improvement of tourism safety response system.

On behalf of the TCS, DSG YAMAMOTO Yasushi delivered a congratulatory remarks by emphasizing the significant initiative by trilateral tourism mechanism in escalating and upgrading the tourism exchange among the three countries, and expressed the TCS’ firm commitment to following up on the Meeting.

At the press conference after the Meeting, the three Ministers announced the adoption of Suzhou Joint Statement of the Eighth Trilateral Tourism Ministers’ Meeting. 
▲Trilateral Tourism Industry Forum

The Trilateral Tourism Industry Forum was also held as a side event which brought together around 300 participants from tourism industry of the three countries. The 9th Trilateral Tourism Ministers’ Meeting will be held in the ROK in 2019.
