Others Courtesy Visit by SG Michigami to the Mayor of Kitakyushu

On November 25, 2019, TCS Secretary General MICHIGAMI Hisashi made a courtesy visit to the Kitakyushu Mayor KITAHASHI Kenji. SG Michigami congratulated the success of the 21st Trilateral Environmental Ministers’ Meeting and mentioned about the selection of Kitakyushu for the Culture City of East Asia 2020, along with Yangzhou, China and Suncheon, ROK and the willingness of TCS’s support in the future. Furthermore, SG Michigami mentioned that the City’s efforts to combat the City’s pollution has been previously used as an example of good practice many times.
Mayor Kitahashi appreciated the support of SG Michigami and shared that the City is focusing on cultural and environmental matters. In addition, the Mayor introduced the City’s efforts of environmental cooperation with Dalian, China (friendship city), by utilizing Kitakyushu’s example of combatting pollution. He continued that the efforts have been recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme, and the two cities were awarded (Dalian: 2001, Kitakyushu: 1990), and that this was the first time a pair of friendship cities was awarded.
The Culture City of East Asia Kitakyushu 2020 Opening Ceremony is planned to be held on March 28 (Saturday), 2020.
