On March 13, 2018, the TCS board members paid a courtesy visit to Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and discussed ongoing cooperative projects between TCS and JETRO such as “Improvement of Supply Chain Connectivity” and “Trilateral Cooperation on E-Commerce”. Mr. MIZUI Osamu, the Executive Vice President, expressed strong interest in to collaborate further with TCS for trilateral economic cooperation.

The TCS also met Mr. KAWABATA Kazuaki, Director-General of International Affairs of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and discussed on the potential cooperation on the education and science sector. SG LEE emphasized the strategic importance of CAMPUS Asia Program and expressed TCS’ willingness to efficiently support the mechanisms related to the Ministry. Mr. KAWABATA appreciated the continuous support from the TCS including the Trilateral Rectors’ Forum (2016) and Seminar on Collective Action for Mobility Program of University Students in Asia (CAMPUS Asia Program, 2017) and wished for another progress on the upcoming 2nd Trilateral Education Ministers’ Meeting. Both sides agreed to deepen the cooperation in this promising areas utilizing the TCS as a focal point for furthering trilateral education cooperation.

During the courtesy visit to Agency for Cultural Affairs, SG LEE underlined the importance of cultural exchange among the three countries as the essence of trilateral cooperation and congratulated the upcoming 10th anniversary of Trilateral Culture Ministers’ Meeting which will be held in Harbin, China. Mr. MIYATA Ryohei, Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs shared his experiences related to the trilateral cultural exchanges and emphasized that the power of enjoyable and heart-touching cultural exchanges can persuade peoples from the three countries. Both sides agreed to expand a substantial contribution by TCS on the occasion of East Asian Cultural Cities 2018.

At the Meeting with Mr. KOMURA Masahiko, Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), SG LEE extended sincere gratitude to him for accepting an invitation to attend as a keynote speaker at the International Forum for Trilateral Cooperation 2018 (IFTC 2018), the TCS’ annual key event, which will be held on April 18, 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. Vice President KOMURA who has hosted the 2nd Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in 2008 highly appreciated the efforts made by the TCS in promoting trilateral cooperation. Both sides also looked forward to the early resumption of the Trilateral Summit.

At the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication, Mr. IMABAYASHI Kenichi, Director-General of Global Strategy Bureau, welcomed TCS’s continuous cooperation and support for the Ministerial Mechanism on ICT. SG LEE expressed that TCS shares the understanding on the strategic importance of ICT cooperation among the three countries. The TCS will continue to deepen collaboration with relevant ministries to enhance cooperation under the mechanism.

The TCS paid a courtesy visit to Embassy of China in Japan and met with Mr. CHENG Yonghua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Japan. Ambassador CHENG emphasized that direct people-to-people exchanges have great influence over mutual understanding among the three countries, and requested the TCS to enlarge exchange platforms such as CAMPUS Asia Program. SG LEE expressed sincere appreciation for the continued support by the Embassy of China in Japan for the TCS project especially held in Japan.
