On October 31st, 2023, Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) attended the 16th CJK Cultural Exchange Forum plenary session at Sheraton Grand Incheon Hotel. Hosted by the Korea-Japan Culture Exchange Council, about 30 participants including cultural experts, scholars, and members of the trilateral culture exchange forum gathered to share their opinion on the topic of “Cultural Exchange in the Post-Covid Era”. 

At the plenary session, SG Lee delivered his remarks on “Revitalizing Trilateral Culture and Human Exchanges”. In his remarks, underlining that culture and people-to-people exchanges create trust and mutual understanding which are essential foundations for sustainable peace and integration among the three countries. He also highlighted the importance of TCS projects related to the Cultural City of East Asia (CCEA), CAMPUS Asia, and Trilateral Youth Exchange Network (TYEN), stating that these initiatives play an important role in promoting mutual understanding at the grassroots level and lay a solid foundation for Trilateral Cooperation even when relations are overshadowed by political ups-and-downs. 

The CJK Cultural Exchange Forum was initiated in 2005 to promote friendship between Korea, China, and Japan, and has been held annually on rotational basis in the three countries since then. Next year’s forum will be hosted in China.
