2023-04-07
On April 7, TCS Secretary-General Amb. OU Boqian and Deputy Secretaries-General BEK Bum-hym and SAKATA Natsuko (collectively the “Consultative Board”) paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and met with Mr. GAO Zheng, Director-General of the International Bureau of The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China. The two sides exchanged views on the trilateral cultureal cooperation among China, Japan, and the ROK in the field of culture and tourism.
Mr. GAO Zheng warmly welcomed the TCS delegation. He was impressed with TCS’ endless effort in enhancing cultural exchange in China, Japan, and the ROK. He also expressed the willingness to further promote trilateral cooperation and support TCS as well as its events to promote mutual perception in the three countries.
SG OU appreciated the ministry’s long-lasting support of TCS. She stressed that cultural exchange is one of the most important missions of the TCS, trying to tackle the issue of the descending mutual perception and recognition among the people. She took the CJK Spirit Word of the Year of 2023 “和合” as an example, illustrating CJK people’s willingness towards peace and trilateral cooperation in the future. She also mentioned the TCS’ publication Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary (TCVD) has a series of spin-off contents such as the video series “CJK Chit Chat” and the incoming TCVD workbook, which vividly shows the use of common vocabulary in CJK people’s daily life. And for the upcoming event, the ‘Cultural City of East Asia (CCEA)’ Media and Internet Celebrity Tour which is an opportunity to increase both cultural and economic exchanges among CCEA cities will be held in April along with a CCEA Mayors’ Dialogue and East Asia Cultural Symposium in Yangzhou as the last highlight events for the tour.
Mr. GAO aligned with the CJK Spirit Word of the Year 2023 and believes that peace and harmony is the trend for China, Japan, and the ROK. He also felt the great significance of TCVD for promoting cultural exchange among the three countries. As for the CCEA media tour, he spoke highly of TCS to organize such an event, and pointed out the importance to have follow-up programs after the CCEA’s selection: underlining that the selection is not neither the end nor the final goal, but rather the beginning of the new cooperation.
Both sides agree to continue strengthening cooperation in the field of cultural and tourism such as CCEA.
