Others 38th East Asia Business Council Meeting in Nanning, China

On April 19th, 2017, Deputy Secretary-General UMEZAWA Akima attended the 38th East Asia Business Council Meeting and Related Meetings at Mingdu Lakeside Hotel in Nanning, China. The Meetings were hosted by the East Asia Business Council, and it was composed of three Working Group Meetings on RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership), e-Commerce and MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), the 38th East Asia Business Council Meeting, and a site visit to the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park. About 40 people, including government officials, entrepreneurs, business federations, and leaders of international organizations from China, Japan, ROK, Australia and ASEAN member states participated in the Meetings.
During the Meetings, DSG UMEZAWA delivered a speech on Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) at the Working Group Meeting on MSME. He introduced the history, significance and great potential of trilateral cooperation. He also briefed the trilateral cooperation mechanisms, the functions and activities of TCS, highlighted the TCS projects on Supply Chain Connectivity, e-Commerce and Trilateral Business Networking Reception and Symposium. He ended his presentation by emphasizing regional cooperation, such as facilitate confidence building among multi stakeholders and regional standardization, and coordinate and streamline policy from global framework, regional cooperation and state practice.
During the Meetings, DSG UMEZAWA also had a discussion on jointly holding the 2017 Trilateral Business Networking Reception and Symposium with Mr. XU Liang, the Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Relations of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
The East Asia Business Council (EABC) was inaugurated in April 2004 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The EABC comprises three business leaders from each ASEAN member countries, China, Japan and ROK, appointed by the respective Economic Ministers. The objectives of the EABC are: to provide private sector perspective and feedback to deepen economic cooperation and to promote the region's economic growth; and to strengthen cooperation among the private sectors in ASEAN, China, Japan and ROK, as well as promote intra-regional trade and investment.
