Seminar & Forum TCS participated in the 9th United Nations Global Compact China-Japan-Korea Roundtable Conference 2017-08-22

On 22 August 2017, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) participated in the 9th United Nations Global Compact China-Japan-Korea Roundtable Conference in Tokyo, Japan as a special sponsor. This annual Conference is held among the CJK Local Offices of the United Nations Global Compact since 2009 and aims to provide a network for business, academia and youth in the three countries to seek collaborative efforts towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). TCS has supported the event since 2015.

This year’s Conference was entitled “Transform Our World with SDGs – Roles of East Asia” and 150 participants actively shared practices and ideas on promoting SDGs in their country. During the youth session, youth participants from the three countries debated on the issue of gender equality and TCS’s Director of Economic Affairs, Ms. JANG Eun-young provided a brief comment on the teams’ performance.

Director JANG also facilitated a session where the three Local Networks assessed their progress on the 17 SDGs and discussed concrete steps to be taken together to further strengthen current efforts. TCS introduced some successful cases of CJK cooperative projects related to SDGs and provided insights on how efforts at various levels can be synergized. At the end of the session, the three Local Networks agreed on several joint actions and adopted them as a collective declaration.

At the closing ceremony, SG YANG Houlan delivered a remark. He underlined the growing potential of CJK cooperation and emphasized that people-to-people exchange can contribute to building better trilateral relations.
