Seminar & Forum Deputy Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon Participated in the Friends of Europe Policy Insight

Deputy Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon participated as a speaker in the Policy Insight conference titled “Japan, China and South Korea – Trilateral Cooperation in the Trump Era,” which was organized by Friends of Europe, a leading think-tank in Europe, on February 22, 2017 in Brussels, Belgium. The Policy Insight is part of Friends of Europe’s Asia Programme which looks into the political, economic and social aspects of Europe’s interaction with the Asian countries. This conference gathered over 100 audience including EU officials, experts and foreign diplomatic representatives.
During the discussion, DSG Lee shared his views on the past, present and future of trilateral cooperation and the process of regional integration in general, along with Mr. Julian WILSON, Head of Division for Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Mr. SONG Xinning, Research Director of the Centre for European Studies at Renmin University.
The DSG Lee introduced the role and achievements of the TCS, and highlighted that the trilateral cooperation is all about tapping into the high complementarities and great potential existing among the three countries. Furthermore, the speakers agreed that despite bilateral difficulties, the three countries can explore their own framework for cooperation while referring to the experience of the European Union.
